Travel Guide to Biri Island Rock Formation, Northern Samar

Still part of our 7d6n trip, the next destination after Sorsogon is Northern Samar. Biri Island is one of the famous tourist attraction in Eastern Visayas because of its beautiful rock formation.

How to get there:

  1. From Manila – take a bus going to Tacloban Leyte and get off Matnog port.
  2. Take a Roro from Matnog to Allen or Jubasan Port. Fare is P120 per head plus terminal fee of P30 each.
  3. Hire a tricycle going to Lavezares Port, fare is P20 but in our case we rented it for P200 (divide 4)
  4. Catch the hourly trip to Biri via outrigger boat, fare is P50 per head
  5. Habal-habal (motorcycle) to the resort/cottage

The Roro left Matnog around 3pm and arrived in Jubasan Port by 04:30pm. We then hired tricycle to catch the last trip (5pm) to Biri because we don’t want to spend a night in Allen plus we are following an itinerary. The boat was about to leave when we arrived in Lavezares, Kuya Joven the operator requested us to just pay for the remaining 4 seats so we can leave for Biri.

06:00 pm situation – we’re almost there

Instead of staying overnight in the cottage we opted to stay in the house of our contact. There is no electricity because the island was affected by typhoon Nona last December 2015. There is a generator in the house we charged our gadgets in preparation for the shoot the following day. We had a sumptuous dinner – fresh crab, grilled fish and unlimited rice and coke – happiness overload. After dinner we spent an hour stargazing. I just love how peaceful the place is. It feels like you’re just visiting your hometown. Lights off at 10:00 pm.

Set our alarm to 04:30 am for breakfast and prepared for the tour. The best time to explore is before sunrise.

These are the people who helped us with the tour, you may contact Marife at 0916-221-3186 and she’ll be glad to help you. Back in the cottage by 11:00 am for an early lunch, we requested for chicken adobo and grilled fish. Settled all the expenses and prepared for a trip back to Lavezares. We rented the boat for P750 because there is no trip after lunch, if you’re a big group you may arrange a special trip with any boat operator. We left Biri Island at 2pm to catch the trip going to the next destination – Tacloban City.

Expenses:

Roro fee and terminal fee – P150 (P120+30)

Tricycle to Lavezares – P50

Boat to Biri – P287.50 (P100+187.50)

Room accom/food/habal-habal and guide fee – P661.00 per head (or total of P2,645 divide 4pax)

TOTAL EXPENSES PER HEAD – P1,148.50
